Your Weight Loss Journey Starts Here

Learn about Our Approach

When you’re 100 pounds or more overweight, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by what you’re trying to lose. Instead, focus on what you could gain. With weight loss surgery, you can gain a more active lifestyle and greater confidence. It could also mean fewer medications, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and better management of diabetes.

Register below to attend a free weight loss surgery seminar as your first step. At this event, you will learn about the weight loss surgery process and types of bariatric surgery we offer. These include gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, lap band, revisional bariatric surgery, and one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) – the newest form of bariatric surgery. We are the only hospital in Maryland to offer OAGB surgery. The best part? We will also teach you how to keep the weight off for good – just like Mark*, featured above. Read his story.

Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Options

See If Bariatric Surgery is Right for You

AAMC’s top weight loss surgeons offer three types of weight loss and metabolic surgery procedures, plus revisions. These include one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB), the newest form of bariatric surgery. We are the only program in Maryland to offer this procedure. Learn more below.

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Using a stapling device, the surgeon will create a thin, upright section of stomach about the size of a banana. They will then remove the rest of the stomach. The smaller stomach pouch limits how much food you can eat at one time. This makes you feel full more quickly and for a longer period of time.

Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass

Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass

The surgeon will create a small stomach pouch and attach it to the small intestine. This bypasses part of the stomach and the rest of the small intestine while still allowing you to keep the nutrients from food. Once again, the smaller stomach makes you feel full more quickly and for a longer period of time.

One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass

Using a stapling device, the surgeon creates a small pouch from the stomach and connects it to the small bowel. Unlike the gastric bypass, there is only one connection to the small intestine. This makes the procedure less invasive and requires less time in the operating room. The one-anastomosis gastric bypass aids in loss weight through less caloric intake and malabsorption. Patients feel fuller faster and absorb less nutrients, calories and fat.

Weight Loss Surgery Support

Lose the Weight & Keep It Off

Bariatric Optimization Program

We partner with Anne Arundel Medical Group (AAMG) Physical Therapy as a part of our Bariatric Optimization Program (BOP). This exercise program is specifically designed to help you prepare for and recover from weight loss surgery. The BOP team guides you through exercises you can safely do during your sessions and at home. This program can help you avoid injury and strengthen muscles.

Nutrition Counseling

Our team works closely with you to prepare you for success. We offer nutrition classes and pre- and post-operative appointments that arm you with the resources and tools you need. Your dietitian will help you create personalized diet plans. This includes meal planning strategies based on your condition, procedure and surgery date. Your body may not tolerate some foods well in the weeks and months after your procedure. Your doctor will give you specific guidelines to follow before and after surgery.

Support Groups

AAMC’s Weight Loss and Metabolic Surgery Program support groups create an environment for patients to share their experiences. There are separate support groups for before and after surgery. Within the class, our dietitians provide you with education on nutrition. For the post-surgery group, we tailor advice to your post-operative lifestyle and eating habits. There is no cost to attend!

Body Contouring

Following your weight loss surgery, you may find you’ve got excess skin left behind*. One way you can remove sagging skin and improve the shape of the supporting area is to consider body contouring. We partner with AAMG Plastic Surgery to offer body contouring after weight loss surgery. AAMG Plastic Surgery has the training, expertise and experience to safely deliver the results you desire.
